In the meantime, learn more about Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong here.

The Golisano Children's Hospital is located within the Strong Memorial Hospital, a general hospital of eight stories with 800 inpatient beds. Pediatric inpatient services are located on the third and fourth floors. All ambulatory care for children is provided on the sixth floor of the Ambulatory Center. Department of Pediatrics faculty offices and research laboratories are on the same floors. There are 51 general inpatient beds including an intermediate care unit, one 12-bed critical care unit, normal newborn nursery and a 52-bed intensive care nursery.

SMH and Golisano Children's Hospital serves as a primary care and emergency medical facility for the community, particularly for those persons living on the south side of Rochester. SMH is a center for a population of 1.3 million who live in a radius of 150 miles. There were 8444 admissions to the pediatric services and 2700 to the newborn services in 1997. The patient population is heterogeneous with regard to social background, place of residence (inner city, suburban, and rural), and medical needs (acute illness care, diagnostic evaluation, and management of chronic medical problems). All medical patients are admitted to the pediatric service and managed by the pediatric staff. The surgical patients are followed by the pediatric staff as well. The nursery houses normal newborns, while the regional intensive care nursery admits critically ill infants transported from the surrounding 11-county region as well as those delivered at SMH. An active pediatric transport service is also available to the surrounding region. Two hundred and twenty children utilized this service in 1997.

The Ambulatory Center opened in May 1996. Over 90,000 visits occur there annually, including general pediatric and subspecialty services. The Pediatric Practice at Strong consists of a multidisciplinary team composed of house officers, faculty, nurse practitioners, social workers, nurses, dietitians and secretaries dedicated to care for over 9,000 patients. Each house officer develops by selection and assignment a panel of patients who are seen during regularly scheduled office hours ñ 1 to 2 half days each week.

Pediatric house officers are also assigned to the Pediatric Emergency Service of Strong Memorial Hospital. Pediatric Emergency Services are located within the Frank and Caroline Gannett Emergency Center on the ground floor of SMH. Greater than 20,000 pediatric visits are made to this facility annually.
